Health care
The Down’s Syndrome Association and the government believes that all people with Down’s syndrome should get the health care they need as individuals.
At the moment, many health professionals cannot see the person behind the label but - by working together - we can change that.
What we need
· Better training for all health professionals in treating patients with learning disabilities
· Thorough and timely heart screening for all babies with Down’s syndrome
· More care in the way new parents are told that their baby has Down’s syndrome
· No patients to be denied treatment because they have Down’s syndrome
· Appropriate health screening from birth onwards for all people with Down’s syndrome
· Respect and support for parents making choices about antenatal tests and their outcomes - whatever they decide to do.
