SPEECH AND LANGUAGE THERAPY - Co-worker Training (3 day)

From 16/10/2007 until 15/01/2008Book Now Online!

Teddington (Greater London)

Symbol UK and the DSA train and support local networks of co-workers, families and speech and language therapists, to run speech and language groups that assist people who have Down's syndrome to develop all aspects of their communication skills.

What are Co-workers?

Co-workers are people with experience of providing support for people with Down’s syndrome and their families, who have undertaken training in carrying out speech and language therapy activities that address the profile of communication difficulties associated with Down’s syndrome.

Co-workers work closely with speech and language therapists, seeking support and taking direction provided through supervision at minimum once a term after initial set up. Co-workers are expected to carry out activities as taught on the co-worker course and directed by speech and language therapists, and to adhere to standards of good practice.

The training focuses on addressing the learning style and communication impairments associated with Down’s syndrome, and does not prepare co-workers to provide this kind of service to people with other diagnoses. For co-workers who work with a wider range of special needs, many of the techniques and strategies may be effective with other people who have learning difficulties and/or communication difficulties.

Interested delegates are required to to complete an application form to determine that this training course is appropriate for their situation. You can also download the course information from the Information - Speech and Language section of this website.
Course Dates: 16th October 2007, 21st November 2007 and 15th January 2008.

Cost: £200 per delegate
