EDUCATION - 3-Day NVQ Accredited Course Supporting Pupils with Down's Syndrome

This course, which is run in partnership with Oxfordshire County Council, is geared towards professionals working in schools. It is part of the training for the National Occupational Standards for Teaching Assistants and provides portfolio evidence towards NVQ 2 and 3, in particular for module 3.14, “Supporting pupils with cognition and learning difficulties during learning activities”. Priority will be given to Learning Support and Teaching Assistants, but interested teachers and parents may also apply.

This course will include inclusive education and the role of the Teaching Assistant, the learning profile of children with Down’s syndrome, teaching numeracy and literacy, issues around differentiation, development of speech and language skills, and social inclusion and age-appropriate behaviour.

This course will be run in two different locations in 2007 (Newcastle and Liverpool). Participants must attend all three days in their chosen location. From 9am to 3.45pm.

The course dates are: 5th October, 2nd November and 16th November.
