The Shifting Perspectives Exhibition 2006 @ The Oxo Gallery, London

After the resounding success of the “365 and Shifting Perspectives Exhibition” last summer the DSA are pleased to announce that a second exhibition will be taking place this summer at The Oxo Tower Gallery situated along the Southbank in London to support our Awareness Week Campaign.

From Wednesday 7th to Sunday
11th June the exhibition will bring
together the work of five
photographers, Richard Bailey,
Fiona Field, Maria de Fatima Campos,
Kayte Brimacombe and Raffaello
Raimondi.

Richard Bailey, photographer of
"365", will be displaying his most
recent project – "The life and living
project". The photographs capture
people with Down’s syndrome at
every stage of life from childhood to
old age. He has photographed,
among others, a theatre group, film
actresses, a chef, a married couple,
students at school and each image
will coincide their personal cover
story.

The images and the people in them challenge the viewers’ perceptions of people with Down’s syndrome and of Down’s syndrome itself. We unfortunately live in a world where people with Down’s syndrome are discriminated by their condition, and this exhibition will instead be asking people not to look at their disabilities but at their abilities.

Due to the exhibition being held during our National Awareness Week Fiona’s project will aptly be based on the week’s theme "Disclosure" – the time that parents were told their child has Down’s syndrome. Most of her photographs have been taken within the first six months of the baby being born. Other photographers, Maria and Kayte will be complimenting the overall theme and following on from their work that was displayed last year.

The gallery is open to the public from 10am to 6.00pm and we very much hope you will come along to what is guaranteed to be a wonderful and informative collection of work.

Last year family and friends meet at the exhibition and then spent the day along the river. The exhibition is a celebration of living with Down’s syndrome and will be an empowering exhibition for the whole family.
